The Lord is my shepherd
- Psalm 23 -
oil on canvas (1.20 m. - 1.00 m.)
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strenght. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. you honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
Green and blue (meadows and water) are colours that dominate the middle part of the painting; it is surrounded by 'dark shadows of the valley'.
Gods rod and staff are merged together at the right side of the painting to depict the menora (the 7-branched candlestick), which is symbolizing Gods' eternal presence.
In the foreground there is 'the feast' and a jar of oil.
In the background, a 'right path' which leads to the House of the Lord. At the bottom is written in Hebrew: 'The Lord is my Shepherd; I have all that I need. I will not be afraid.'
